Where We Live: Opelousas Neighborhoods Photography Walk

By Courtney J., Macaroni Kid Publisher September 7, 2025

The Opelousas Museum is conducting a project called Where We Live: Opelousas Neighborhoods. It is an invitation for Opelousas residents to document their neighborhoods in their own way.

Join the Opelousas Museum for a community Photography Walk on Sunday, October 26, from 4-5:30pm. This is a FREE community event for residents of all ages to explore the neighborhood with their cameras and phones! Participants will meet up at the Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center located at 314 N. Main Street in Opelousas at 4pm.

One thing to remember is that the project is not seeking a particular point of view.  The photo could be uplifting, or the subject matter may be disturbing. An image may evoke a range of emotions. Resident photographers should consider the concepts they want to communicate and how their images can illustrate a sentiment most effectively.

Images are powerful. The project seeks what's real.  That's the point.

You can submit your photos to the museum until November 15 for the project. In January the museum will put together an exhibit highlighting the neighborhoods of Opelousas through the lens of the residents. Chosen photos will be printed and displayed in the museum.
