Accordion legend Jeffery Broussard returns to the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 12 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center at I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas. The Zydeco Capital Jam is open to musicians of all skill levels.
Already known worldwide for his accordion mastery, Broussard added a major motion picture cameo to his resume last year. He appeared, as an accordionist, in “Sinners,” a hit horror movie nominated for 16 Academy Awards. The movie won four Oscars, including Best Original Score. Broussard plays on that soundtrack, along with blues icons Eric Gales, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Bobby Rush.
The movie appearance adds to Broussard’s rich legacy in zydeco and Creole music. Born and raised in St. Landry Parish, Broussard follows in the footsteps of his legendary father, Delton Broussard, leader of the popular Lawtell Playboys band. Jeffery grabbed the spotlight in the 1980s and ‘90s as leader of Zydeco Force, a highly influential group that brought a contemporary sound to the music.
Zydeco Force became dancehall and TV favorites with frequent appearances on the popular Sunday morning program, “Zydeco Extravaganza,” on KATC-TV 3. Fans flocked to the clubs to hear “Hey Madeline,” “On My Way,” “B-Flat” and other hits.
In recent years, Broussard has returned to his traditional roots with his Creole Cowboys band. “Bayou Moonlight,” an album released in 2025, features Broussard with the Nighttime Syndicate, a brass band from New Orleans.
Admission is free to the Zydeco Capital Jam, open to all musicians and fans. For more information, visit the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission web site at cajuntravel.com.
