New Giving Fridge and Pantry in St. Landry Parish

Community-run and community-supported refrigerator in St. Landry Parish

February 6, 2026

What is a community fridge?

A community fridge is a public refrigerator where neighbors share food freely as an act of mutual aid — reducing waste and supporting one another.

The idea is simple:

Take what you need, give what you can.

Donating?

You can donate as much as you would like. If you drop off individual meals or prepared food, please label and date them for safety.

The Giving Fridge and Pantry
A special project for St. Landry Parish is currently in the works through the St. Landry Parish Chamber of Commerce Leadership St. Landry. Construction is currently in progress on a community fridge and pantry on South Court Street to provide a place where neighbors can support neighbors through access to fresh food, pantry staples, and year-round giving.

The pantry will be stocked with a variety of items, including plate lunches, cold food items, non-perishable goods, baby clothes, and formula. Once complete, the fridge and pantry will be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing community members to take what they need at any time.

The Community Fridge and Pantry will be located at the corner of Vine and Court Street in the St. Landry Bank and Trust Company parking lot.

The Giving Fridge

There is currently a community fridge located outside the St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency Food Distribution Center at 1065 Highway 749, Opelousas, LA.

Named “The Giving Fridge,” this project was created and donated by residents Itzell Camacho and Juan Carlos Cruz. SLPG is simply providing the space — the fridge is community-run and community-supported.

Please Note:

This fridge is not owned or stocked by St. Landry Parish Government. Its success depends on our community’s participation.
